Helping maintain healthy Oak Park smiles

At the office of Dr. Murphy, it’s our belief that healthy smiles don’t happen by accident. Along with positive oral hygiene habits, we recommend seeing a dentist every six months for a scheduled cleaning and dental health review. For us to help you maintain a lasting smile, we need to periodically examine your teeth and ensure they’re remaining healthy.

Every visit that you arrange for you and your family will allow us to clean your teeth as best we can while also checking for minor damage or weaknesses. With regular check-ups, you can feel more confident and secure in the health of your smile.

What to expect from a routine check-up

  • Dental Sealants. If our team notices any of your teeth that are at risk of tooth decay, we can provide simple plastic sealants that cover these endangered teeth. The sealants stop bacteria or plaque buildup and decrease the chance of tooth decay.
  • Fluoride Treatments. Additional fluoride may be offered by our staff to assist with areas in danger of tooth decay.
  • X-ray Exams. Our state-of-the-art x-ray machines pick up all the details that we might otherwise miss. We can check for tooth decay, periodontal disease, tumors, and other problems that we’d miss with normal exams.
  • Oral Hygiene Plan. We can’t personally attend to your teeth each and every day, but we’d be happy to work with you to create a forward-thinking oral hygiene plan. This will keep your teeth in good shape until your next appointment. We're willing to cater the plan to your specific oral needs, so be sure to ask us about your oral hygiene at your next visit.

Professional Teeth Cleaning

A thorough teeth cleaning every few months is the foundation of a healthy smile. Every cleaning increases the chance of your teeth remaining strong for your entire life. By being proactive, you’re less likely to need expensive dentistry. It can also save you a countless number of extra trips to the dentist.

During your comprehensive teeth cleaning, we’ll use special brushes and dental scrapers to remove bacteria, plaque, and tartar. Our expert team can reach the crevices and areas of your mouth that are difficult to brush, preventing the plaque from becoming unmanageable. After the extensive cleaning has taken place, we’ll polish the surface of your teeth which erases stains and protects tooth enamel.

Oral Cancer Screening

While it is rare, oral cancer can affect everyone.  That’s why we offer oral cancer screenings to all our patients at the office of Dr. Murphy. If we notice anything that is suspicious, we refer you to a specialist.  From there, we'll quickly set out a plan to have any irregularity more carefully examined and treated.
